Jay Leno looks at Ricardo's HyBoost system. Interesting. Once I got past Jay stating the P1 has an electric supercharger (oh brother...), I spent the first 8 minutes of the video asking, "Where are the 48v systems we were promised?! 48v and do away with the turbocharger altogether. I'm sure this would give even better efficiency. At 8 minutes it's explained this is going to be the next step.

What tickled me pink was when he said they were working to make this into an aftermarket kit.

$1100/vehicle for the manufacturer says it could be one hell of an affordable kit for the end customer too.

Someone should let the Ricardo guys know that the UK road tax on their Focus ends in 13 days.

Oh, and it's not a 2009, it's a 2011.

Oh, and they didn't tear out a 2.0l, it was a 1.6l

WAIT, WAIT.

1100$ for all that work?

Downsizing the engine (through some magical process), an "electric supercharger", and a regular turbo, a bunch of supercaps?? All for 1100?

Nah, I suspect just for the value of the added parts not including the engine. Turbo, Supercharger, processors, and super caps. Keep in mind this is wholesale and no install.

So does that mean in order to reproduce this you need a euro model with the 1.6t or even better an st? There is no way you could add a turbo to the 2.o like my 2013 se and all the "hybrid" components at $1100 even at wholesale cost. Also since the supercharger & stop/start is already on a separate circuit why not use much higher voltage, wouldn't that be more efficient? I want know so much more but ricardo.com seems to just have a press release that links to this video. I would consider adding this aftermarket after my warranty expires.
